Time Stands Still is a riveting drama that takes on our complicated relationship to war – and the war of relationships.
Sarah and James, a photographer and a journalist, share a passion for the adrenaline rush that comes from reporting stories in the world's deadliest war zones. When the realities of combat become too much for James, a rift begins to form between them.
After Sarah is wounded in a bomb blast in Iraq, she is forced to return home to James —and to the safety, and comparative boredom, of New York. Her struggle to adapt to life in New York is contrasted with the life of her mentor, Richard, who is happily embarking on a more conventional path with a much younger woman.
Pressed to consider settling down in New York, Sarah must face her addiction to a life filled with unpredictability and come to terms with the impossibility of remaining just a spectator on the homefront to the tragedies of war.
Time Stands Still is a witty, intelligent, and topical examination of our complicated relationship to war and its effects on the people who choose to be part of the chaos.
This staged production will be performed script-in-hand and is directed by Jeff Brown, featuring Charlie Malo, Tyler Weaver, Jessica Khailo, and Robert Craighead.
This production is intended for mature audiences and includes adult language and situations. Discretion is advised.
“Smart, stylish, timely and layered with an intriguing seriousness that inspires discussion after the curtain comes down.”
– Associated Press
“A solid play – taut and well-constructed, with hardly a single detail extraneous.”
– Time Out New York
“Mr. Margulies is gifted at creating complex characters through wholly natural interaction,Time Stands Still is deceptively modest, consisting of a handful of conversations among just four characters, the range of feeling it explores is wide and deep.”
